New Legislation Allows Students to Carry Life-Saving Medical Allergy Device
Governor Rod Blagojevich recently signed into law Senate Bill 2898 permitting students to carry and self administer an allergy medication device known as an epinephrine auto-injector or epi-pen. The device is used to stave off severe reaction to food or insect allergies.

Self-administration of asthma medication (Public Act #92-0402)
Provided that the requirements of this Act are fulfilled, a pupil may possess and use his or her medication (i) while in school, (ii) while at a school-sponsored activity, (iii) while under the supervision of school personnel, or (iv) before or after normal school activities, such as while in before-school or after-school care on school-operated property.
On December 5, 2005 the Chicago City Council passed an comprehensive clean indoor air ordinance. The ordinance went into effect on January 16, 2006. Our work is not done. Work is underway to make Illinois a smoke-free state.
